Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the government had decided to celebrate September 17 as ‘Praja Palana Dinotsavam’ after careful thought and that it would be foolish if anyone tried to derive political mileage from the Telangana armed struggle.

There were differences of opinion on defining the auspicious day. While, some called it Integration day, others celebrated as Liberation day. The State government observed that it was wrong to act in such a way as to ignore the sacrifices of Telangana martyrs of yesteryear by calling it Integration Day or Liberation Day, he said at the ‘Praja Palana Dinotsavam’ programme here on Tuesday.

“The State government linked the historical day to people and called it as Praja Palana Dinotsavam,” Revanth Reddy said. Stating that the government was trying to its best to improve the financial situation through debt restructuring, the Chief Minister said he had visited Delhi many times to get Central funds.

“I met the Prime Minister and others but some political forces are criticising my Delhi tours. I am not going to Delhi for my personal work. Delhi is not in Pakistan or Bangladesh,” he said.

“It is our right to seek the State’s share from the taxes. I will go to Delhi many times to claim the State’s share. Strong arguments were made before the 16th Finance Commission for more funds and 50 per cent share in Central taxes,” he said.

Stating that the government was setting up a ‘Pravasi Prajavani Kendra’ in Praja Bhavan as part of Prajavani to address the greivances of Gulf workers and also Telangana citizens working in other countries quickly, he said a committee to study the plights of the Gulf workers and prepare long-term plans would also be set up.
