Cockfight betting raid: 22 held, Rs.35 lakh worth of property seized

The Commissioner’s Task Force and Adibatla police raided a farmhouse where cockfight betting was allegedly being organised and apprehended 22 persons. Police seized cash, 31 roosters, knives, smartphones and vehicles worth an estimated Rs.35 lakh

Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force (Shamshabad Zone), along with the Adibatla police, on Saturday night raided a farmhouse where betting on rooster fights was being organised and apprehended 22 persons.

According to the police, the organisers had invited gamblers from Andhra Pradesh and other places, made arrangements for food and other facilities, and formed teams for conducting cockfights and three-card gambling.

During the operation, the police seized Rs.3,60,510 in cash, 31 live betting roosters valued at Rs.9.30 lakh, 146 cockfighting knives, 20 smartphones, a score notebook, three cars and three two-wheelers. The total value of the seized property was estimated at Rs.35 lakh.

The police said the main organiser and the landowner were absconding. The apprehended persons, along with the seized material, were handed over to the Adibatla Police for further investigation.
