Hyderabad: Serilingampally shivered at 9.7 degree Celsius on Friday, as minimum temperatures continue to dip in Hyderabad.

Against a normal minimum temperature at this time of the month of 18 degree Celsius, the city recorded 13 degree Celsius on Friday. The IMD-H has issued a Yellow alert for the city till December 19. An Orange alert has also been issued for December 20 and 21.

According to India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad officials, the temperatures were likely to fall further. As per the forecast for the next five days, the minimum temperature in Hyderabad is likely to dip by three to four degree Celsius, along with surface wind of six to eight kilometre per hour. Night temperatures in several localities might drop below 15 degree Celsius.

“The northern parts of the country are witnessing western disturbance, due to which the temperatures in Telangana are dropping,” said LV Rao, Duty officer, IMD-H. “We are expecting that the temperatures in several parts of the state will dip below 10 degree Celsius. In Hyderabad, places situated towards the outskirts, such as Serilingampally, Rajendranagar and Hayathnagar, might witness single digit temperatures; whereas the temperature inside the city is likely to range from 11 degree Celsius to 15 degree Celsius. The temperatures are likely to come back to normal — around 16 degree Celsius — after five to six days. However, if the western disturbance prevails, the temperatures might drop further,” he adds.

Several districts in Telangana are also facing cold wave conditions with the temperatures falling below 10 degree Celsius. Kumram Bheem Asifabad recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the State of 8 degree Celsius on Friday. The IMD-H has issued an Orange warning for districts including Adilabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Jagtial and Mahabubabad.

IMD’s colour-coded warnings:

Green (All is well): No advisory issued
Yellow (Be Aware): When minimum temperature ranges from 11 to 15 degree Celsius
Orange (Be prepared): When minimum temperature ranges from 5 to 10 degree Celsius
Red (Take action): When minimum temperature is equal to or below 4 degree Celsius
