Adilabad: The roof of the old Collectorate building collapsed due to heavy rains just minutes before in-charge minister Jupalli Krishna Rao’s review meeting here on Thursday.
The roof of the veranda of the old Collectorate, where many departments are functioning, caved in following the downpour. Two policemen on duty in front of the treasury department had a narrow escape in the mishap. Files belonging to the department were destroyed. Employees heaved a sigh of relief as no one sustained injuries.
The accident occurred minutes before in-charge minister Jupally Krishna Rao, who was touring the district, was scheduled to arrive at the Collectorate for a meeting with district officials. Since it was evening, there were no office staff or people, so a major accident was averted.
