Hyderabad: A complaint was lodged at the Narsingi Police Station on Monday against Telugu news channel Maha News, alleging defamatory and targeted broadcasts against the family of BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar.

The complainant, Uday Kumar, a member of the Swaeroes Network State Committee, alleged that over the past three days, the channel had aired scrolls and programmes, apart from conducting an online poll questioning whether Praveen Kumar’s sons were “good or bad people”, allegedly at the direction of Maha News Managing Director Vamsi Krishna.

Uday Kumar said the broadcasts began after Praveen Kumar held a press conference demanding action in the POCSO case involving Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar. He alleged that attempts were being made to politically defame Praveen Kumar as he belonged to the Scheduled Caste community and had previously contested from the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency.

The complainant demanded that police register cases under the SC/ST Atrocities Act against Vamsi Krishna and others involved in the alleged online trolling and harassment, and direct the channel to immediately withdraw the broadcasts.
