Adilabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar instructed the district authorities to chalk out an action plan and achieve the target set for administering vaccines against Covid-19 by December 22.

The Chief Secretary held a review meeting on the ongoing vaccination drive with District Collectors, Additional Collectors and authorities of Health and Medical Department from erstwhile Adilabad district here on Friday. Health and Medical Department Principal Secretary Syed Ali Murtuza Rizvi and Secretary Srinivas Rao were also present.

Addressing the authorities of the four districts, Somesh Kumar directed them to appoint nodal officers for every village, mandal, primary health centre and mandal and to make the vaccination drive a success. He also asked them to assign officials to carry out the vaccination in urban parts by motivating the public to undergo the vaccine.

The Chief Secretary further instructed the Collectors of Adilabad, Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Nirmal districts to tour rural and urban parts to ensure effective implementation of the drive. He said that roughly 17.6 lakh persons still needed to undergo the vaccination in erstwhile Adilabad district and set a deadline of December 22 to achieve the target.

The senior IAS officer advised the authorities to accomplish the target before the spread of the Omicron, the latest variant of Covid-19. He asked them to share the target every day.

Murtuza Rizvi stressed the need to expedite the vaccination drive in the erstwhile Adilabad district. He told the Collectors to take steps to form teams and to administer the vaccine. He asked them to widely publicise the activity and to cover the citizens. He stated that Mancherial district was leading in vaccination by achieving 95 per cent of the target of the first dose and 39 per cent of the second dose followed by Nirmal which saw 83 per cent of the first dose and 33 per cent of the second dose.

Collectors Sikta Patnaik, Musharraf Ali Faruqui, Bharati Hollikeri and Rahul Raj narrated the steps being taken to curtail the spread of the virus and to achieve targets with regard to the vaccination in their respective districts. They said that special officers were deputed for carrying out the vaccination drive and special measures were being taken to create awareness among the public.
