Congress adopts duplicity in honouring its own leaders, says NV Subhash
Recalls how the Congress denied a memorial in Delhi for former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, who was instrumental in initiating India’s economic reforms
Hyderabad: While welcoming the decision of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for approving a memorial for the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the national capital, BJP spokesperson NV Subhash criticised the Congress for its duplicity in honouring its own leaders.
He recalled how the Congress denied a memorial in Delhi for former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, who was instrumental in initiating India’s economic reforms. In contrast, the BJP-led government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a memorial for Manmohan Singh at the request of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, showcasing its commitment to fairness and inclusivity, he said.
Subhash, the grand son of Narasimha Rao, accused the Congress of mistreating the late Prime Minister, who remained loyal to the party throughout his career, by denying him the dignity of an official programme in Delhi during his funeral in 2004.
The decision was driven by then Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her associates, reflecting the party’s disregard for one of its most significant leaders, he alleged, adding that the BJP, on the other hand, posthumously honoured Narasimha Rao by awarding him the Bharat Ratna, acknowledging his contributions to the nation.
The BJP had demonstrated a more mature and fair approach in politics, treating all leaders with dignity, unlike the Congress, which has repeatedly engaged in what he described as petty politics, he said.
