Peddapalli: BJP State president N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday dismissed the Congress’ proposed dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi demanding 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) as a “drama” and “false narrative”.
Addressing a press conference in Peddapalli after meeting party workers and visiting Dharmaram, Ramchander Rao accused the Congress and the State government of lacking genuine intent on the BC reservation issue. He alleged the ruling party was only trying to shift the blame onto the BJP by claiming that a constitutional amendment was needed in Parliament to enhance the quota.
“The Congress promised 42 percent reservation for BCs before the elections but allocated 10 percent to Muslims. How can BC communities trust such a party?” he asked.
Taking a swipe at the Congress’ protest site, he remarked, “The Congress dharna at Jantar Mantar is like Jantar Mantar itself — an illusion.”
Ramchander Rao also questioned the party’s internal leadership choices, pointing out that the Congress, from the time of Rajiv Gandhi to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, had never made a BC leader the Chief Minister. “This exposes their true commitment to BC welfare,” he said.
In contrast, he highlighted that the BJP had appointed 27 BC leaders as Union Ministers, reflecting the party’s commitment to empowering the community.
