Revanth Reddy, senior Congress leaders head to Delhi for Jantar Mantar protest

Revanth Reddy and senior Congress leaders are in Delhi to demand Presidential assent for the BC quota Bill. The party plans a Jantar Mantar protest Wednesday, followed by a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, along with his Cabinet colleagues and senior Congress leaders, left for New Delhi on Tuesday to participate in a protest at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday, demanding Presidential assent for the BC reservations Bill passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly.

AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and other senior leaders had already left for the national capital by a special train on Monday. Several ministers, including BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, travelled by flight on Tuesday.

In a statement, Ponnam Prabhakar said a three-day action plan had been chalked out to press for implementation of 42 percent reservations for Backward Classes in the State.

On Tuesday, the Congress submitted an Adjournment Motion in Parliament seeking discussion on the issue. On Wednesday, the party will stage a protest at Jantar Mantar, followed by a delegation led by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi meeting President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday to formally request approval of the Bills passed in the Telangana Assembly.

The State government had passed the reservation Bills on March 17 and forwarded them to Governor C P Radhakrishnan, who subsequently sent them to the President for assent.
