Congress betrayed BCs on 42 per cent reservations, says Srinivas Goud

Former Minister V Srinivas Goud and ex-MLA Jaipal Yadav criticised the Congress government for failing to implement its promise of 42 percent reservations for backward classes in gram panchayat elections. They alleged that the move would reduce the quota to 23 percent, calling it a grave injustice.

Hyderabad: Questioning the rationale behind the promise of the Congress for party-based reservations in gram panchayat elections, which are to be conducted without party symbols, former Minister and BRS leader V Srinivas Goud on Tuesday criticised the State government for its betrayal of backward classes on the 42 percent reservation issue.

Addressing a news conference at Telangana Bhavan, he pointed out that though TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud had declared earlier that elections would be held only after granting 42 percent reservations, the party was now going back on its promise.

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress party over its handling of BC reservations, he alleged that despite promising 42 percent reservations in the Kamareddy declaration, the Congress government had failed to implement its assurances.

Former MLA Jaipal Yadav said the Congress move would amount to reducing BC reservations from 42 percent to 23 percent, which was a grave injustice. He argued that party-based reservations were not legally valid and accused the Congress of cheating BCs by limiting quotas within the 50 percent cap. Both leaders demanded that BC organisations unite and fight for their rightful share.
