Hyderabad: Congress party has the history of targeting Muslim community and stirring communal cauldron and the same is now being repeated in Telangana State, charged several Muslims intellectuals and social activists. “Muslims in Telangana are cheated by the Congress”, they averred.

At a press conference here on Thursday, they rued that ever since the Congress government took over the reins of the State, a nefarious plan to eliminate Muslim leadership and instil fear among the Muslims was being implemented by orchestrating communal disturbances in different parts of the State.

The Rashtriya Muslim Morcha president and a noted social worker SM Abdul Qadeer said there were no Muslim leaders or representatives in Revanth Reddy’s government to represent and highlight the issues and concerns of the community.

“The Congress government is out to eliminate the Muslim leadership and is adopting its age-old modus operandi, orchestrating communal violence and then during the elections, seek votes pretending to be the ones shielding the Muslims from communal forces,” he said. He cited the example of Jainoor violence and said the police knew about the possibility and plans of the violence but for some reason, arrests were not made.

The recent trend of rise in communal violence is a failure of the government and the police, Abdul Qadeer argued adding that the administration too failed to act timely in the recent temple desecration in Secunderabad, which otherwise happened to be a peaceful area.

“There were attempts to target a mosque and police were attacked by a large gathering but only a handful of four or five suspects were arrested so far,” he said adding that the recent happenings have shown that Muslims did not get justice in the present dispensation.

Abdul Qadeer said there was violence during a protest rally taken out in Zahirabad to condemn the attack on Secunderabad temple. “The head of the State has RSS affiliation and the police who share similar sympathies appear to feel emboldened now,” he charged.

Khalida Parveen, an activist, said the government and the police were targeting the Muslims and like in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, a free hand was given in attacks against the community. She said the government is neither doing anything for the families affected by violence in Jainoor nor allowing anyone to help them.

“The Chief Minister Revanth Reddy should immediately announce compensation for the families affected by the violence in Jainoor. Also, action should be initiated against officials who failed to prevent and control the violence,” she added.

Noted social activist, Aleem Khan alias Aleem Falki, said the series of communal violence incidents that rocked the State were on the same pattern seen at Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh. “It is clear that Revanth Reddy is ignoring the violence perpetrated by the communal forces,” he said.

Among those who addressed the press conference were: Jamat-e-Islam Hind vice-president Abdul Majeed Shoeb, State president of Movement for Peace and Justice Mohd. Abdul Aziz,

Dr Kumar from Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation (BAMCEF), social activists Sarah Mathews, S.Q. Masood, Syd Majit SHuttari, Imran and Khalida Parveen and advocate M.A. Shakeel.
