Hyderabad: BRS legislature party (BRSLP) deputy leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav accused the Congress government of discriminating against Backward Classes (BCs), alleging that the ruling party was ignoring the community despite its electoral support. He demanded greater representation for BCs in the State Cabinet and urged BC voters to question the Congress over its decisions.

He declared that the BRS would follow social justice while selecting candidates for the graduate MLC elections.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Srinivas Yadav questioned the Congress party’s decision to field two candidates from upper castes in the upcoming graduate MLC elections. He asked whether there were no eligible BC graduates for the two seats and why the community was being denied opportunities.

He said successive governments led by N Chandrababu Naidu, YS Rajasekhara Reddy and K Chandrashekhar Rao had adopted resolutions on BC issues and alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was now attempting to mislead the community. He also recalled the Congress’ promise of 42 per cent reservation for BCs and the Kamareddy declaration.

The former minister criticised the heavy police deployment and arrests of BRS leaders across the erstwhile Karimnagar district ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit to Sircilla.

BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan alleged that the Congress was suppressing the voice of BCs in Telangana and had denied a BC candidate an opportunity in both graduate MLC elections. He urged BC voters to respond to the Congress through their ballot.
