Nalgonda: Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod on Tuesday said the selection of a non-local by Congress as its candidate for Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda MLC elections in itself was a moral defeat much before polling.

Speaking to the media after attending the filing of nomination by TRS candidate Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, she said the ruling party will win the MLC election by a good margin of votes. Stating that Congress candidate Sathavath Ramulu Naik was a non-local candidate, she said graduate voters would hand out a bitter defeat to the Congress candidate in the elections. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is a very respected leader for the tribals particularly since he has upgraded 1,400 thandas into grama panchayats. The initiative of the Chief Minister facilitated thandas to get more funds leading to their development,” she added.

Coming down heavily on the BJP government at the Centre, she said the Union government intentionally created hurdles for the setting up of Tribal University in the State. She also criticised the Centre for not fulfilling its promise to set up Bayyaram Steel Plant in the State.

Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao said TRS members should explain to graduate voters about the filling of 1.31 lakh jobs by the State government in the last six years and counter opposition allegations against the State government. He ticked off BJP government at the Centre for its failure to fulfill its poll promise of filling two crore jobs in the country. He pointed out that it was only the TRS, which had fulfilled all its promises made in the election manifesto, for the first time in the history of the country. The TRS leaders should take the responsibility of convincing each graduate voter to support TRS candidate in the MLC elections, he added.

Minister for Transport Puvvada Ajay Kumar said a large number of graduates had enrolled as MLC voters due to the awareness programmes conducted by the TRS in erstwhile Nalgonda, Warangal and Khammam districts. He exuded confidence that Rajeshwar Reddy will win the election with first priority votes. Opposition leaders, he said, were leveling baseless allegations against the State government only for their political survival. Loyal graduate voters should go in for first preference vote for Rajeshwar Reddy and not go for second preference vote to any candidate, he suggested.

Minister for Energy G Jagadish Reddy said that Narendra Modi government has adopted anti-people policies in the last seven years, which have created hardship to poor and middle-class people in the country. Hike in the prices of petrol and diesel would cause an indirect financial burden on common people. Indirectly referring to the privatisation of railways by the Centre, he lamented said that Narendra Modi was also trying to sell out railway station, which provided shelter to him earlier, to private firms.

He said that any one of our schemes – 24 hours free electricity to agriculture, farmers investment support scheme Rythu Bandhu, insurance scheme Rythu Bima and kalyana Lakshmi not being implemented in the BJP ruled states in the country. He has also underlined the need to control BJP for the larger interests of the people as well as the country.
