Sangareddy: Former Minister T Harish Rao said the Congress government had cancelled funds to the tune of Rs 50 crore out of Rs 75 crore granted for various development works for Tellapur municipality by the previous BRS government.

Speaking to news reporters after participating in an Iftar party organised by former municipal chairperson Latha Somi Reddy in Tellapur on Saturday, Harish Rao held the Congress responsible for lack of development in Tellapur. Rao said the BRS government had allotted 5 acres of land for Tellapur municipality where a modern function hall was built to generate revenue for the civic body. The BRS had also granted funds for building the municipality apart from creating the municipality, he said, adding that a sub-station and drainage was also sanctioned, but there was no progress in the works since the Congress came to power.

Talking on the issues pertaining to Muslims, the former Minister said the Congress came to power with a promise of spending Rs 4,000 crore annually on Muslim welfare. However, he said they could not spend even Rs 1,000 crore during the financial year though the government allotted Rs 3,000 crore in the last budget. The Congress government just spent Rs 1,000 crore on minority residential schools, but nothing on women or youth welfare so far. The government also failed to extend the promised one tola of gold as part of the Shaadi Mubarak scheme, he added.

Dubbak MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and others were present.
