Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao criticised the Congress government for neglecting farmers and failing to deliver on its promises.

Sharing the videos and photographs of farmers staging protests for irrigation water on X, Harish Rao said the farmers’ condition in Suryapet, the home district of Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, is pathetic. “The Congress government has brought tears to the farmers. Despite grand announcements and expensive advertisements about the release of irrigation water, no water has reached the fields. If this is the situation in Suryapet, the situation elsewhere in the State must be worse,” he remarked.

He pointed out that the Congress government announced to release water to irrigate around 3.36 lakh acres in Thungathurthy, Suryapet and Kodad constituencies under Phase-II of Sri Ram Sagar Project, which was not implemented. He targeted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for making false claims and putting the lives of farmers in a jeopardy. He demanded immediate action to provide water to farmers’ fields, urging the Chief Minister to prioritise the welfare of the farming community over political activities.

In a separate statement, Harish Rao also exposed the government’s failure to pay salaries to members of the Telangana Women’s Commission, despite the allocation of Rs 2.42 crore in the budget. “How can this government claim to protect women’s rights when it cannot even pay the salaries of Women’s Commission members, who hold judge-like status?” he asked. He urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to immediately release the pending dues and ensure timely payments for the Women’s Commission members.
