Sangareddy: Even more than two years after the Congress came to power, it has failed to complete the integrated market in Sangareddy town. Following a request by Sangareddy MLA Chintha Prabhakar, the BRS government had sanctioned Rs 11.50 crore for the project. The then Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao laid the foundation stone for the works in December 2021.

About 25 per cent of the works were completed, but construction came to a halt after the Congress assumed office. Despite tall claims by Congress leader T Jagga Reddy and his wife, TGIIC Chairperson Nirmala, about securing huge funds for Sangareddy municipality, the remaining works were completely ignored.

Though Sangareddy town has been expanding rapidly, with the population growing year after year, it continues to lack a proper vegetable market. Vendors are being forced to sell vegetables along roads, blocking traffic at several places across the town.

Recently, Sangareddy MLA Prabhakar, along with other BRS leaders, visited the under-construction market to highlight what they described as the Congress government’s apathy and the lack of commitment of Congress leaders in securing funds for the town.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Prabhakar said the BRS government had spent Rs 822 crore on Sangareddy during its 10-year rule, including Rs 510 crore on establishing a medical college. He said the then Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had also sanctioned a Rs 50 crore special development fund to improve infrastructure facilities.

The MLA said the BRS government had constructed Vaikunta dhamams, a fish market, open gyms, children’s parks, municipal parks and public toilets, besides installing a central lighting system after building a road median on the Sangareddy main road.
