Hyderabad: Launching a scathing attack on the State government for letting down farmers without giving water to withering crops, BRS leader and MLC K Kavitha on Saturday condemned the Congress leadership’s failure.
Expressing solidarity with former MLA Korukanti Chander for his ongoing padayatra for Godavari water at Komuravelli, she called it a commendable effort to open the eyes of the Congress government. She emphasised the need for a renewed struggle, stating that Telangana was born out of a fight against the Congress.
“Now we must raise our fists against them to ensure water reaches our fields,” she said.
“Are they shamelessly sitting and watching while crops dry up? Why do Congress leaders have such disregard for farmers?” she asked, urging the public to recognise the government’s failures. She pointed to the recent SLBC tunnel accident, which occurred a month ago, and criticised the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) for its inaction.
“When the Medigadda Barrage was in question, the Congress accused it of structural issues, and the very next day, the BJP-led central government sent the NDSA. Now, a month after the SLBC tunnel collapse, where is the NDSA?” she asked, alleging a political conspiracy between the two parties.
Kavitha accused the Congress and BJP of jointly orchestrating a smear campaign against the Medigadda barrage, a key component of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project, to discredit the ambitious irrigation initiative spearheaded by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.
“The Congress government is letting fields dry up across lakhs of acres by refusing to utilise Kaleshwaram waters, pushing farmers into despair,” she said, lashing out at Congress leaders for their inaction.
Kavitha credited Chandrashekhar Rao with transforming Telangana into a fertile State by harnessing Godavari waters through the Kaleshwaram project. But the Congress was busy undoing the transformation that he had done during the BRS regime, she lamented.
