Students protest merger of polytechnics with YISU, demand revocation of GO MS 97

Polytechnic students in Hyderabad staged protests against the Telangana government’s decision to merge institutes with the Young India Skills University (YISU). Demonstrations by students of the Government Institute of Leather Technology disrupted traffic in Raidurgam, leading to clashes with police.

Hyderabad: Protests against the merger of the polytechnics with the Young India Skills University (YISU) continued on Wednesday. A large number of polytechnic students from the Government Institute of Leather Technology, Raidurgam hit the road demanding the Telangana Congress government revoke GO MS 97.

As students staged a protest on the road, the traffic movement on Raidurgam road went haywire, causing severe disruption. Heated exchanges ensued as the police personnel tried to detain protesters who resisted the move. They raised slogans against the government and some students questioned how police could lay hands on girls and allegedly beat them.

Protesters appealed to the State government not to jeopardize their future by integrating polytechnics with the YISU, which has been established under the public private partnership model.
