Hyderabad: Suryapet MLA and former Minister G Jagadish Reddy accused the Congress government of attempting to dismantle welfare schemes initiated by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao during the BRS regime. He said the Congress government, which shelved the fee reimbursement scheme for students, was conspiring to abolish free electricity and free drinking water schemes in Telangana.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan after inducting student leader Kommanaboyina Saidulu and others from Nakrekal into the BRS here on Friday, Jagadish Reddy said the proposed new DISCOM was aimed at weakening the free 24-hour power supply provided to farmers during the K Chandrashekhar Rao government. He claimed the government was planning to install smart meters on agricultural pump sets and eventually levy charges on beneficiaries currently receiving free electricity.
The BRS leader questioned the viability of the proposed entity, stating that it would carry a massive debt of Rs 36,000 crore while functioning with inadequate manpower. He alleged that the move was part of a larger plan to privatise the power sector and hand over revenue-generating operations to private corporate firms.
Jagadish Reddy also launched an attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over student issues, accusing the Congress government of betraying students and suppressing protests in Ashok Nagar through prohibitory orders. Calling upon party cadres to intensify the struggle, he said the BRS would continue fighting to protect farmers, students and public welfare schemes introduced during the previous regime.
