Hyderabad: In the last one year, the Congress in Telangana has faced fierce criticism from different sections for the abusive and derogatory language used by its leaders.
Beginning from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Forest Minister Konda Surekha to Shadnagar MLA Veerlapally Shankar, Congress leaders have been in the news for the comments and threats they made and the language they used against BRS leaders and even against the public.
At many junctures, the Congress leaders in a bid to demean BRS leaders failed to maintain decorum and crossed limits. This was not limited to the Assembly but has been continuing unabated at different instances.
While speaking on the Appropriation Bill in the Assembly on July 31, the Chief Minister had created a furore with his comments on BRS MLAs Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy.
Advising BRS working president KT Rama Rao, the Chief Minister asked him not to trust the “sisters” (Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy), failing which he would end up at Jubilee Bus Station. The BRS MLAs demanded the Chief Minister to tender unconditional apology to the two women MLAs.
The Chief Minister’s abusive language against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, and his threat that he would run bulldozers over anyone who stood against his Musi River Project too were seen as the degradation of standards of the national party in Telangana.
Courting controversy, Forest Minister Konda Surekha had alleged that the BRS working president was involved in the divorce of Tollywood actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha. With people from different quarters objecting to the Minister’s language, she withdrew her comments.
On August 2, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender used abusive language against BRS MLAs, causing uproar in the Assembly. With the entire opposition raising strong objections to his “unwarranted” and “offensive” remarks in the House, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar had to intervene and the MLA was forced to apologise by withdrawing his remarks.Joining the list, Shadnagar MLA Veerlapally Shankar triggered a row for abusing Velama community. After complaints were lodged in different police stations and appeals were made to the Speaker to disqualify him as MLA, Shankar withdrew his comments on Saturday.
With Assembly session commencing from Monday, will the Congress MLAs mend their ways or continue using objectionable language, is a concern among many.
