Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao and BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao on Tuesday condemned the arrests of party MLCs Thatha Madhu and B Naveen Kumar Reddy, accusing the Congress government of using police and cases to suppress the Opposition.

In a statement, Rama Rao said the Congress government had failed to implement the six guarantees and 420 promises and had achieved only arrests and illegal detentions in its 1,000 days in office. “If the promises are implemented, all BRS MLCs and MLAs will come and voluntarily get arrested. We are ready, are you ready?” he challenged.

Questioning the government’s response to the alleged treatment of BRS women legislators at the Assembly gate on Monday, he demanded details of action taken against those who allegedly pulled the sarees of senior MLAs P Sabitha Indra Reddy and V Sunitha Laxma Reddy, held their necks and assaulted them.

The BRS working president also alleged that Madhu and Naveen were arrested by filing fake cases, despite the High Court’s observations on Monday. He accused the government of resorting to diversion politics and said people were watching its actions.

“What is right for Rahul Gandhi in parliament, apparently, is wrong for us in Telangana Assembly. Mr. Gandhi, you are just a hypocrite,” he called out in a post on social media directed at Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi.

Harish Rao stated that the police who acted on the directions of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, attacked BRS legislators and prevented them from entering the Assembly, had now arrested Madhu and Naveen. He condemned the arrests and said cases were being filed against the MLCs despite the High Court’s observations.

“Why such animosity towards the Opposition, Mr. Revanth Reddy?” he asked, alleging that the government was trying to prevent BRS representatives from raising public issues in the Assembly. He declared that BRS cannot be silenced by cases or arrests and instead will continue its fight on public issues.

The BRSLP deputy leader questioned whether the arrests were aimed at preventing discussion on the Congress government’s 1,000-day failures, 22A land issues, alleged land scams, Polytechnic students’ problems and farmers’ issues. He also questioned why no action had been taken against those accused of pulling the sarees and choking BRS women legislators. He said the government was using the police as a private army and imposing an Emergency rule to silence the Opposition.
