Khammam: Congress leader Rayala Rama Rao, who misbehaved with and allegedly assaulted a woman Sub-Inspector of Police, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody along with his six accomplices.
A statement from Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt informed that seven persons were arrested and remanded for misbehaving with on-duty SI Haritha of Kallur police station. The incident occurred when the SI tried to ensure order as the accused created a ruckus at a local hotel on Friday night.
Rama Rao and others were booked under Sections 329(4) (criminal trespass), 296(b) (obscene acts), 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman), and 189(2) (unlawful assembly) read with Section 190 of the BNS, under crime number 102/2025.
The case was registered based on the complaint of the hotel owner, Maganti Bosubabu.
Another case, with crime number 103/2025, was registered against the accused under Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 189 (unlawful assembly with a common illegal objective), 191(2) (punishment for rioting), 195 (assaulting or obstructing a public servant while suppressing a riot), 132 (assaulting or using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duties), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and others, based on the complaint of the SI.
Cases were registered against ten persons, and seven were arrested. It was said that a case had previously been registered against Rama Rao at Tallada police station.
