Hyderabad: Congress MLA from Choppadandi, Medipally Satyam, has raised strong objections to the manner in which reservations in local bodies have been extended to different communities in his constituency.
Satyam has appealed to the State government to reconsider the reservation process in Karimnagar and Jagtial districts, alleging injustice in the allocation. Parts of Choppadandi constituency fall under Karimnagar, Jagtial and Rajanna-Sircilla districts, where objections have been voiced that a few mandals have been reserved for select communities excluding others.
In a letter to Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao on Saturday, the MLA said the process lacked fairness. “I request a re-conduct of the reservation process in Karimnagar and Jagtial districts to ensure fairness, as there are allegations that justice has not been done to the Backward Classes and SC/ST communities in local bodies,” Satyam wrote.
The objections, coming at a time when speculation is rife that notification for local body elections could be issued late on Saturday evening or Sunday, have put the Congress in a spot.
Ever since the Congress government conducted a survey to extend 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes and declared their population to be 56.33 per cent of the State, questions have been raised over the accuracy of the data and fairness of implementation.
As per the present reservations in Choppadandi constituency:

Ramadugu – BC (Women)
Choppadandi – BC (Women)

Reservation details for Kodimial and Mallial mandals in Jagtial district and Boinpalli in Rajanna-Sircilla district are yet to be announced.
