Hyderabad: Congress legislators appear to have realised now that the inappropriate and intemperate language being used by Forest minister Konda Surekha is having an adverse impact on the prospects of their party.

This realisation came about, obviously, after Surekha’s daughter Konda Sushmita raised a banner of revolt with her diatribe against the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy accusing him of corrupt practises and nepotism.

Interestingly, none of the Congress legislators had objected to Konda Surekha’s use of intemperate language against film personalities back in 2024, inviting legal cases against her which forced her to withdraw her comments. At that time, Congress leaders neither condemned her comments nor raised any objections.

However, the current episode of her daughter’s outburst, galvanised a group of MLAs to call for a press conference on Friday to denounce Konda Surekha’s language and her comments against film actors. One of the legislators Vedma Bojju (Khanapur) voiced his objections to Surekha’s language saying it was not the first instance in which Surekha used foul language. In the past, she had made wild allegations against film heroines, he recalled.

His colleague, Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham accused the Konda family of damaging the Congress party’s reputation and the government’s image for their amusement.

“Be it Samantha or any other issue, your language has been posing problems for the party,” he maintained.

The observations by the Congress MLAs have drawn strong criticism from the opposition. Questions are being raised over why the Congress leaders chose to maintain silence when similar verbal assaults were launched against the film actors earlier.

“In 2024, when Konda Surekha passed disgusting comments against actress Samantha, when CM Revanth Reddy passed indecent comments on actress Rakul Preet Singh, no MLA condemned. Why?” BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank asked on X.
