Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Tuesday alleged that some unscrupulous elements from the BJP and TRS were spreading rumours that the party’s Dubbak candidate Cheruku Srinivas Reddy was leaving the party. The Congress urged the authorities to investigate and take action against the culprits.

In a letter to Chief Electoral Officer Shahank Goel and DGP M Mahender Reddy, TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy said a video which went viral was aimed at damaging the prospects of Congress in the by-election to Dubbak Assembly constituency. “The contents depicted in the video are far from truth and Srinivas Reddy is an ethical and loyal Congress activist,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said. He added that the TV 9 channel whose logo was seen in the video has denied telecasting it.

“We suspect that Finance Minister T Harish Rao and BJP candidate M Raghunandan Rao who are closely related may be behind the fake video,” he said. Later addressing the media at the DGP’s office he said that both the parties started their misinformation campaign just when polling began in Dubbak.

“The video seems to be made by a professional. The Kerala high court had disqualified an elected candidate for indulging in a similar crime,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said, adding that the party had suffered damage in the election and should get justice.
