Hyderabad: Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao on Tuesday said the Congress government was instilling fear among residents of Hyderabad with misinformation about the alleged encroachment of ponds and lakes, specifically in the Kukatpally area. He suggested that the Ministers conduct field visits to gather accurate information rather than depending on aerial surveys, satellite images and other data.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Krishna Rao found fault with Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka for overstepping his role, suggesting he was performing duties that should be handled by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Krishna Rao, who recently filed an RTI request regarding the extent of water bodies’ encroachments in Kukatpally, found discrepancies in the information released by the Deputy Chief Minister and the official data available.

“The Finance Minister’s report is riddled with errors, and his statements do not align with the findings given by the officials under RTI,” he said, adding that the government should not mislead or alarm people without verified data. He stated that no new encroachments were found in Kamuni Cheruvu, Maisamma Cheruvu, Boin Cheruvu, Nalla Cheruvu, Mullagadda Cheruvu, Sunnam Cheruvu, Kaza Kunta and other water bodies in Kukatpally constituency during the BRS rule.

The Kukatpally MLA suggested that the State government constitute a dedicated committee to conduct a comprehensive survey of all water bodies, starting in Kukatpally.

“Apart from just aerial surveys, the committee should verify Full Tank Levels (FTLs) and the lake boundaries through direct on-ground inspections to ensure accuracy,” he said, stating that this method would provide citizens with reliable information and transparency.

He also appealed for fair compensation to those who legally own patta lands around ponds, suggesting that these lands be acquired and developed appropriately instead of spreading unverified information. “People deserve clarity, not fear,” he asserted.
