Environmental activist Paladugu Gnaneshwar and villagers of Dommadugu staged a protest at Nalla Cheruvu against the release of toxic effluents by pharmaceutical companies. Gnaneshwar, previously on hunger strike, was detained twice by police. The villagers demanded immediate government action to stop the pollution.
Heavy rains are allegedly being exploited by pharmaceutical and chemical companies in Sangareddy to discharge untreated effluents into local water bodies. In Bonthapally and Isnapur, tanks turned red and contaminated water flowed into paddy fields, causing health issues and panic among farmers.
