Constable faces SC/ST Act case after public assault on wife in Mancherial

Mancherial: A police constable was booked on charges of abusing his wife in the name of caste and assaulting her under the influence of liquor in full public view on Sunday at Reddy Colony. A video clip of the incident went viral on Monday.
Police said a case was registered against Constable Ravi Prasad, working with the Mancherial town police, under SC ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for assaulting his wife Shirisha, a Superintendent with the Telangana State Special Police 13th battalion in Gudipet.
Based on a complaint received from her, investigation was taken up.
According to police, the assault occurred during a dispute in which the constable allegedly suspected his wife’s fidelity.
Meanwhile, a clip of the incident was widely shared on WhatsApp groups. Prasad is seen in an inebriated condition, wearing only undergarments. Shirisha is seen crying helplessly and holding a toddler.
