Warangal: As many as 26 passengers travelling in an RTC bus suffered bleeding injuries when the bus was hit by a speeding container truck on National Highway 563 in the district on Friday.
The incident occurred on the outskirts of Mylaram village in Rayaparthy mandal when the bus was going to Thorrur from Warangal. The truck, going towards Warangal, hit the bus on the front side. Nearly 60 passengers were in the bus at the time of the accident.
The accident caused a massive traffic jam on the Warangal–Khammam route, with vehicles getting stranded on a two-kilometre stretch. The injured were laid on the road for a long period, waiting for ambulances to arrive.
Many of the injured were shifted to a nearby government hospital by locals. After first aid, they were moved to MGM Hospital in Warangal. Rayaparthy police reached the spot, cleared the traffic jam, and monitored the shifting of injured passengers to hospital.
A case in this connection was registered by the police. Rash driving by the truck driver was said to be the reason for the accident. The condition of several injured passengers was said to be critical.
