Mount Maunganui: Devon Conway and Tom Latham shone bright once again, thanks to their 192-run partnership, as New Zealand posted a mammoth 462-run target for the West Indies to chase. With just three sessions in hand, the visitors face a huge task on Day 5.

West Indies’ start to Day 4 of the third and final Test against New Zealand was dull, losing a wicket in the second over after resuming at 381/6. Shai Hope’s return was short-lived as Jacob Duffy dismissed him in the fourth over, reducing the visitors to 390/8.

Kavem Hodge and Jayden Seales tried to stretch the innings, but Ajaz Patel and Michael Rae struck to dismiss Seales and Kemar Roach, closing the Windies’ first innings at 420. Hodge was the standout with an unbeaten 123 off 275 balls.

New Zealand secured a 155-run lead and ended the session strongly. Conway and Latham looked in sublime touch, adding 192 runs for the opening wicket. Conway (100) became the first New Zealander to score both a double-century and a century in the same Test, following his 227 in the first innings.

Latham (101) also reached three figures before being dismissed. Kane Williamson (40) and Rachin Ravindra (46) added quick runs before declaring, setting West Indies a 462-run target.

John Campbell and Brandon King survived the final hour, finishing at 43/0 at stumps. The visitors need 418 runs on Day 5, with all wickets intact. While a win looks unlikely, a draw remains possible.

Brief Scores: New Zealand 575/8 & 306/2 dec (Tom Latham 101, Devon Conway 100; Kavem Hodge 2-80) lead West Indies 420 & 43/0 (Brandon King 37, John Campbell 2) by 418 runs.
