Hyderabad: Rajinikanth’s latest outing Coolie has turned theatres into a celebration. Packed with whistles, cheers and houseful boards across regions, the film has managed to capture audience attention in a way only a Superstar vehicle can.
What stands out is the pace at which the film is rewriting records. Within just three days of release, Coolie has grossed around Rs. 324 crore worldwide, making it the fastest Tamil movie to cross the Rs. 300 crore mark. Until now, Vijay’s Leo held that record, achieving it in five days. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who helmed both films, has once again broken his own benchmark.
The achievement becomes more significant considering the film opened to mixed reviews and faced a direct competitor in War 2. Yet, Rajinikanth’s presence proved enough to draw crowds in huge numbers, proving that his stardom continues to be the industry’s biggest driving force even in his seventies.
Trade experts suggest that Sunday’s numbers are likely to remain steady, though the weekdays will be the real test of its box-office stamina. For now, the film has set a strong foundation for what could be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
Featuring a star-studded cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, Soubin Shahir, Rachitha Ram and Shruti Haasan, the film has been produced by Sun Pictures, with Anirudh’s music adding to its mass appeal. With such momentum, Coolie is expected to continue its dream run in the days to come.
