Hyderabad: A high-level coordination meeting on strengthening monsoon preparedness and integrating meteorological data into the city’s emergency response systems was held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGiCCC) on Thursday.

Convened by Director VB Kamalasan Reddy, the session saw participation of Dr K Nagaratna, Head of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, along with her team.

Dr Nagaratna provided comprehensive insights into IMD’s forecasting capabilities, including now cast, mid-range, extended-range, and long-range forecasts. She highlighted the utilisation of advanced tools such as Doppler weather radar imaging, meteorological satellite images, numerical weather predictions, and GIS-based special imaging.

A review of the types and technical specifications of cameras currently deployed at TGiCCC was also conducted to ensure optimal functionality during the monsoon season.

Key discussions included the analysis of heavy rainfall events over the past decade, the advancement of Southwest Monsoon 2025, and the frequency of cold and heat waves.

Dissemination of advisories, alerts, and warnings through various media channels, including the SACHET mobile application, was also deliberated to ensure timely communication with government officials and citizens.
