Sangareddy: Controversy erupted over the death of a police officer, who was run over by a police vehicle driven by a home guard at the MRO office in Manoor mandal headquarters on Monday night.
The deceased officer, Govinda Nayak (58), who is an Assistant Sub-Inspector, constable Venkatesh and Home Guard Rama Rao were on patrolling duty on Monday night at 10 PM.
While Venkatesh and Govinda Nayak got down from the vehicle and signed in the point book, Rama Rao, who was driving the vehicle, drove recklessly and hit Nayak. He sustained serious injuries and died on the spot.
As Rama Rao fled from the scene immediately after the incident, the family members of Govinda Nayak suspected that the home guard intentionally ran over Nayak. Following a complaint from Nayak’s son Supreeth, the Manoor police registered a case. The probe was on.
