Cops destroy over 263 seized modified silencers in Warangal

Warangal: Issuing a strict warning to the errant motorists, Warangal traffic police destroyed over 263 modified loud silencers (exhaust pipes of two-wheelers) seized during a recent drive using a bulldozer at Adalat Junction on Tuesday.

Traffic ACP Satyanarayana warned that criminal action would be taken against the motorist and the mechanic who made any changes to the silencers that came along with the bike from the company.


The action against the modified silencers would continue in the coming days, he said, adding that action would also be taken against the manufacturers, distributors and dealers of the pressure horns and silencers in the coming days.

The modification of silencers on motorbikes not only violates traffic regulations but also raises air pollution, he said, adding that it leads to amplified noise levels, posing serious health hazards to people.

The Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicle Act states that fitting horns and modified silencers on motorbikes is liable to be charged with a fine up to Rs 10,000 and imprisonment up to six months. The penalty applies if the pressure horn or modified silencer produces more than 80 decibels of noise.
