Nalgonda: With no candidate securing more than 50 per cent of votes in the Nalgonda-Warangal-Khammam Graduate MLC constituency, Returning Officer Prashant Jeevan Patil took a decision to take up counting of second preference votes on Friday, the third day of counting.
Of the total 3,87,969 polled votes, 3,66,333 votes were found valid and 21,636 votes were invalid. The counting of valid votes for first preference votes was completed in seven rounds. In all seven rounds, TRS candidate Palla Rajeshwar Reddy enjoyed majority, but failed to secure 1.8 lakh first preference votes to win. Hence, the Returning Officer decided to take up counting of second preference votes.
In first preference votes, Rajeshwar Reddy was in top position polling 1,10,840 votes while independent candidate Teenmar Mallanna was placed in second place with 83,290 votes. Rajeshwar Reddy was ahead by 27,500 votes against his nearest rival in first preference votes.
Telangana Jana Samithi candidate Prof Kodandaram was in third place getting 70,072 first preference votes while BJP candidate Gujjala Premender Reddy was in fourth place getting 39,107 first preference votes.
