Hyderabad: A local court granted three days’ custody of Nori Lakshmi Bhasker, Additional Medical Superintendent of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for questioning in a disproportionate assets case.
The ACB will question him about the assets allegedly amassed beyond his known sources of income, properties held in the names of suspected benamis, and related financial transactions. Officials are also expected to examine the source of funds used to acquire the properties and, if any, establish the role of other individuals in the alleged transactions.
The ACB registered a case against Lakshmi Bhasker under the Prevention of Corruption Act over allegations of possessing disproportionate assets. On September 21, 2026, the bureau conducted searches at five locations on September 29, including premises linked to suspected benamis.
Initial searches uncovered massive accumulated wealth allegedly linked to the doctor, with registered document values of about Rs 6.13 crore and an estimated market value of Rs 80 crore to Rs 100 crore. The ACB recovered luxury vehicles and gold jewellery and uncovered multiple flats and open plots in prime areas.
During the searches, officials reportedly recovered Rs 7 lakh from Dhanraj, a barber suspected of being linked to the doctor’s financial dealings. The recovery and the alleged links between the individuals are being examined as part of the investigation.
The ACB is expected to use the three-day custody to question Lakshmi Bhasker about property documents, financial records, investments, and suspected benami holdings. The agency is also attempting to establish the extent of the assets and determine whether they can be accounted for by his known sources of income.
