The Hyderabad-based Confederation of Voluntary Associations (COVA) organised ‘Diwali-Mahavir Nirvana-Guru Nanak Jayanthi’, a multi-faith celebrations comprising of children, young men and women of different religions and caste at Urdu Ghar on Sunday.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad-based Confederation of Voluntary Associations (COVA) organised ‘Diwali-Mahavir Nirvana-Guru Nanak Jayanthi’, a multi-faith celebrations comprising of children, young men and women of different religions and caste at Urdu Ghar on Sunday. Leaders representing different religions participated in the celebrations and delivered the message of peace and prosperity.

“Diwali is the festival of prosperity. We light Diyas of knowledge to remove the darkness of ignorance,” said Hari Narayan Tiwari of Allahabad.

Sardar Sajjan Singh, member, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar spoke about the virtues and values taught by Guru Nanak.

Br. Yesu Prabhaharan, Director Boys Town Group of Institutions and Dr. Mazher Hussain of COVA narrated the importance of Mahavir Nirvana.

Bharatesh Kidambi, Project Coordinator, COVA pointed out that the core objective of multi-faith celebrations is to invite families and promote better understanding.

Participants appreciated the initiative and promised to invite their neighbors for all their festivals to promote better understanding and social harmony. The speakers also asserted that religions cannot and should not be used for hatred and violence and youth to be protected from getting corrupted by the social media, a press release from COVA added.
