Visakhapatnam: With the spike in cases of Covid-19 in the second wave, there is acute shortage of life saving equipment in the market.
Keeping in mind the need for such instruments, the Diesel Loco Shed of Waltair Division has taken a useful life saving project to meet the demand. The DLS has taken the challenge of non-availability of medically used regulators and oxygen flow meters in the market and started fabrication by modifying the industrial oxygen regulator and provision of in-house design humidifiers to save the lives of oxygen support patients.
Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava, the DLS Visakhapatnam has modified the existing industrial oxygen regulator to meet the requirement for supplying oxygen through an in-house fabricated humidifier that will be used for supplying
oxygen to the patients to save their lives in case of urgency and non-availability of regular oxygen flow meter.
The equipment was fabricated in-house under the monitoring of Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Diesel) Santosh Kumar Patro, by utilising available components as per the requirements of Divisional Railway Hospital, Waltair.
The modification works have been carried out by Diesel Loco Shed with in-house design of humidifier devices to meet the demand of Railway Divisional Hospital, Visakhapatnam. The device was successfully tested at the Railway Hospital for its workability and to meet the urgency and 15 such devices were handed over to Divisional Railway Hospital, Waltair within a day. The cost incurred for such modification of one set device is about Rs. 475 (excluding industrial oxygen regulator).
