Khammam: Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar launched Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) here on Thursday for treatment of Covid-19 patients in rural parts of erstwhile Khammam district.
The Minister said two MMUs equipped with hi-tech Intensive Care Unit (ICUs) were allotted to Khammam and Kothagudem and would be deployed to serve the needy and inaccessible patients in the rural areas.
The State government has been making committed efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 and to offer quality health care services by improving health infrastructure at all public health facilities in the State, he said.
The Mobile Medical Units would further help to ensure better health services at their doorsteps in a speedy manner, Ajay Kumar said while thanking the Lord’s Church’s senior pastor, Dr .Raj Prakash Paul, who initiated the project with support from Vera Smart Healthcare.
The Lord’s Church representatives, Abraham and Ramesh informed that in the first phase around 30 MMUs were made functional with IT and MA&UD Minister, K T Rama Rao flagged off in Hyderabad on June 3.
They explained that each Mobile Medical Unit was air conditioned and equipped with facilities such as 10 oxygen supported beds, testing lab, a dedicated monitoring system, CCTV and video live interaction, duty doctors, nursing staff and technicians.
Ajay Kumar while expressing pleasure at launching the MMUs said Covid crisis has highlighted the significance of health care workers. ‘I thank Lord’s Church for coming forward extending Covid health services during the present crisis’, he noted.
Later, the Minister visited the Covid vaccination centre set up for high risk groups at Government Junior College at Shanti Nagar in the city. He directed the officials to ensure that every potential spreader would be vaccinated.
Ajay Kumar who inspected road widening works taken up on a stretch of 7.7 km from Koyachelaka to Papatapalli in Rathunathapalem mandal in the district. He expressed displeasure over the delay in the works execution and directed officials to expedite the works.
He also inspected central lighting and road widening works underway with SUDA funds in Manchukonda village and told authorities to ensure quality in the works. SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar, District Collector RV Karnan, Municipal Commissioner, Anurag Jayanti were present.
