Karimnagar: In a tragic incident, a Covid patient, who was denied entry into her rented house by the owner, died while undergoing treatment in an isolation ward in Karimnagar on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old woman, who was a vegetable vendor and stayed along with family in a rented house in Ambedkar Colony in Jammikunta town, was forced to stay out for two days without medicines and food.
The woman, who was diagnosed with Covid on Thursday, had to spend that night in an old agriculture market yard. Suspecting her condition, market yard staff enquired about her and asked her to vacate the place.
She then took shelter under the road-over-a-bridge near Ambedkar Chowk on Friday night and on Saturday.
Finding the woman sleeping on a pushcart throughout the day, local people alerted health officials who shifted her to an isolation ward in Karimnagar where she breathed her last while undergoing treatment.
The health of the woman deteriorated as she spent outside without medicines and food for two days. Though the doctor provided treatment, she did not respond to it as the infection had spread, officials said.
She is survived by her husband and two sons. While the married sons live separately, the couple was staying in a house which has only one bathroom.
The husband and the sons, who work as daily wage labourers, did not take steps to shift her to an isolation centre by informing health officials due to the lack of awareness.
Responding to the incident, local Congress leader and 12th ward Councillor Molugu Dileep, who took initiative to shift the woman to an isolation centre, expressed deep concern over her death.
Covid-hit woman hangs self
Mancherial: A 54-year old woman hanged herself to death at her residence, depressed allegedly after she, her husband, and daughter-in-law tested positive for Covid-19, at Hanuman Basti in Bellampalli town on Wednesday.
Sources said the deceased, Suddala Jalaja, contracted the disease a week ago. Jalaja resorted to the drastic step as she was reportedly disheartened after learning that her husband and daughter-in-law were too infected. She committed suicide in a separate room where she was isolated. Her husband, Mondaiah, is being treated at a hospital in Hyderabad while her daughter-in-law is in home quarantine.
