Karimnagar: Activists of CPI district unit burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kaman chowk here on Tuesday, in protest against lathi-charge on farmers in Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI district secretary Ponagani Kedari found fault with the Union government for lathi-charge, using tear gas shells and water cannons on farmers agitating at Delhi demanding the abolition of three anti-farmers Acts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained a mute spectator while farmers were agitating against anti-farmer laws. It was not proper on the part of the PM to neglect the farming community.

The Modi government was conspiring to put the agriculture sector in the hands of corporate forces, he alleged and demanded the Union government to withdraw its plans and make new acts to provide minimum support price (MSP) to protect the interests of farmers.

He urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to announce his government’s decision opposing the anti-farmers’ laws in the wake of farmers’ agitation in Delhi.

CPI leaders Koyyada Srujan Kumar, Boini Ashok, JV Ramana Reddy, Kasireddy Surender Reddy and others participated in the protest.
