Hyderabad: Communist Party of India Telangana Council has appealed to Industries Minister KT Rama Rao to initiate measures for reopening the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit at Adilabad by the State Government, besides continuing to exert pressure on the Central Government for reopening the unit.

In a letter to the Industries Minister, CPI State Secretary C Venkat Reddy said the CCI unit was closed by Central Government 20 years ago. Despite, State Government, workers union and political parties appeals to reopen the unit, Centre has not considered the pleas, he said.

The CPI State Secretary welcomed the Industries Minister’s requests to the Union Minister for Heavy Industries to reopen the CCI unit.

“In case the Central Government fails to respond positively and if required, the State Government can initiate measures for reopening the unit by signing a 10 years agreement,” Venkat Reddy suggested in the letter.

There was provision of limestone and supply of required quantity of water for the unit. In view of rampant construction activities across the State, there was dearth of cement. By reopening the CCI unit, the State Government can address the cement shortage issue and provide employment to many people, he said.
