Cracking the code is the key: Varun Chakravarthy
On the overall KKR squad building up for the title defence, Varun said that the team looked good and it’s about cracking the code and having the best playing eleven performing consistently
Kolkata Knight Riders' frontline spinner Varun Chakravarthy having a word with head coach Chandrakant Pandit and bowling coach Bharat Arun.
Kolkata: Varun Chakravarthy, one of the heroes of Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning campaign in the IPL last season, says there is nothing specific in being successful consistently against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, Varun said it was just the situation of those matches which helped him pick wickets. The two teams will begin their campaign at the iconic Eden Gardens in the season opener on Saturday.
“In all those games the conditions and the situations were completely favourable towards us so I was able to extract the best possible result,” said the mystery spinner, who also played a key role in India winning the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy recently in Dubai.
On the overall KKR squad building up for the title defence, Varun said that the team looked good and it’s about cracking the code and having the best playing eleven performing consistently.
“If we are able to get a set score in the first three matches, then we have great chances ahead in this season,” he said.
Reflecting on any changes he made to come with such strong performances of late, Varun said the main thing was working on consistency, which was the toughest thing to master.
“And, I’m putting in constant work in order to achieve that. And of course, I’m working on a few other deliveries which I’m hoping will come off nicely in the upcoming games,” he said.
For the record, KKR will be looking forward to adding to the winning streak with wins in the last 4 consecutive games against RCB. With a favourable 20-14 head-to-head record, the defending champions will be eager to kick off their title defence with a victory.
