Cremation cost fixed at Rs 5 for Covid victims in Mahabubnagar
Family members of the Covid victims have to pay Rs. 5 challan to Municipal Commissioner, following which the municipality will take over the body to the crematorium and all the rituals will be performed
Mahabubnagar: The District administration has launched a novel initiative of charging just Rs 5 for cremation of Covid-19 victims.
“The objective is to help families who lost their dear ones to Covid. There have been instances when family members refused cremation of their kith and kin out of fear. Considering all these factors, the novel service of charging Rs 5 for cremation has been launched,” said Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud.
The family members have to pay Rs. 5 challan to Municipal Commissioner, following which the municipality will take over. The body will be shifted to the crematorium and all the rituals will be performed as per the traditions, he said while addressing media persons here on Sunday.
The Minister informed that a new gas-based crematorium was being constructed in a area spread over two acres in the town. The new crematorium will be operational mostly in a month, he said.
He said due to the measures and foresight of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Covid-19 cases were gradually coming down in the State. Finding fault with opposition over scarcity of oxygen and vaccination, he said though vaccines were manufacturing in Telangana, it was the Central Government, which allocates the vaccines to every State, he said.
It is very unfortunate that opposition parties are trying to politicise such aspects, the Minister said adding that the discrimination of Central Government towards Telangana continues unabated.
“By inspecting Covid wards and interacting with patients in Gandhi and MGM Hospitals, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has instilled confidence in many of us to serve people during these testing times” said Srinivas Goud.
