Crop losses prompt Telangana farmers to protest power outages
Telangana farmers are protesting against power outages that are causing significant crop losses in the region. The farmers demand a resolution to the power supply issues to prevent further agricultural damages.
Farmers in Nizambaad distrist protest against power disruptions
MORTAD: Farmers in Mortad and surrounding villages staged a protest in front of a power sub-station in Kammarpally mandal on Saturday, voicing their anger over frequent power cuts. This comes despite the government’s claims of uninterrupted and quality power supply across Telangana.
The aggrieved farmers said their crops were drying up due to inconsistent electricity supply, further exacerbated by poor rainfall this season. They alleged that power officials were negligent in ensuring uninterrupted power to agricultural connections.
The protestors also said even domestic connections were witnessing frequent outages. The farmers demanded that the Deputy Engineer visit the site and hear their grievances. Police rushed to the spot and persuaded the protestors to wait for four days while promising that the issue would be resolved.
Following the police assurance, the farmers withdrew their protest but warned they would launch a fresh agitation if the situation did not improve within the stipulated time.
