Hyderabad: The Central Water Commission (CWC) has postponed its scheduled meeting with irrigation officials from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, initially set for April 21, to discuss the water availability in the Godavari River for various ongoing and proposed projects in both States.

Telangana had formally requested the postponement, citing a crucial meeting on April 24 of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), led by Union Jal Shakti Secretary Debashree Mukherjee, which is set to review the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme and the Seetamma Sagar multipurpose project.

Engineer-in-Chief (General) of Telangana, G Anil Kumar, in a letter to CWC Chairman Mukesh Kumar Sinha, expressed the State’s willingness to participate in the meeting any time after April 24.

Andhra Pradesh has been pressing both the CWC and the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) not to approve Telangana’s Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) until the river’s water availability is scientifically assessed.

AP has argued that the existing calculations for Pranahita, Indravati, and Lower Godavari are not scientifically validated and require further study. A new date for the meeting is yet to be finalised.
