Sangareddy: Cyber crooks cheated the sarpanch of a village in Kalher mandal by offering him Rs 80 lakh in cash, a Land Cruiser vehicle and a flat in Mumbai. The fraudsters made him believe their claims by issuing fake documents of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Customs department. He gave Rs 4.12 lakh to the cyber criminals, which they demanded for payment of GST and processing charges.
Instead of releasing the promised amount, the fraudsters further insisted on more money, threatening the man that CBI officials would arrest him unless he paid them more. After realising that he had been cheated, the sarpanch registered a complaint by calling 1930. Later, he also visited Kalher police station to file a complaint. A case was registered and the investigation is on. SI Ravi urged people under the police station limits not to believe such fraudsters.
