Hyderabad: A retired Air Commander from Secunderabad, aged 77, was duped of Rs 10 lakh by cyber fraudsters when he tried to find a friend through a dating app to tide over his loneliness. The victim was living alone in Secunderabad after retiring from the Air Force.
It was in April that he searched for a dating application on the Internet and contacted a number provided on a website. “Initially, a woman spoke to him and asked him to register by paying Rs 2,000 which he promptly did. On some or the other pretext, fraudsters collected around Rs 10 lakh from him between April and July,” the Hyderabad Cybercrime police said.
Realising he was duped, the victim approached the police and lodged a complaint on Tuesday, after which police booked a case and are investigating.
