Hyderabad: In a first of its kind, the Cyberabad Police on Tuesday conducted ‘Stolen Property Release Mela’ and returned the stolen material worth Rs 1.5 crore to the owners.

The mela, held at the Cyberabad Police Ground, had valuables recovered from suspects that were being handed over to owners after following due procedure.

Stolen material including gold and silver ornaments, vehicles and cash lost due to theft, robbery, burglary, attention diversion and other cases, estimated to be worth Rs 1.5 crore, was returned.

“The protection of the life and property and prevention and solving cases is the core duties of police. Living up to the expectations of the citizens, we have been making genuine and dedicated efforts in tracing and nabbing suspects in cases using all possible technologies and also recovering the stolen material from them intact, in most cases,” a senior official said, adding that gold and silver recovered in 20 cases, Rs 30.6 lakh recovered in 30 cases, 90 vehicles recovered in 90 cases, 35 mobiles phones recovered in 25 cases and 11 other valuables recovered in 11 cases, totalling 176 cases with property worth Rs.1.5 crore were recovered.

The owners, happy that they got their valuables back, said they were satisfied with the proactive approach of the police in intimating them and helping them reclaim their properties.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the handing over of stolen property back to owners forms a critical part of the criminal justice system in the country and it must happen seamlessly to the satisfaction of the common citizens who are victims of property crimes. The Cyberabad Police have been developing a mechanism of proactive intimation of property offence cases, recovery of stolen material and also helping owners in courts to get their property released without any inconvenience.

He appreciated the efforts of all wings of the Cyberabad Police in solving cases, nabbing suspects, recovery of stolen material and their prompt release to the genuine owners.

“This will go a long way in building the confidence of citizens on the effectiveness of the policing system. The Telangana Police and Cyberabad Police are committed to serving the people always for their safety,” he added.
