Hyderabad: Actor Sonu Sood said the role he played during the Covid-19 pandemic, to help people in distress, was the most important phase in his life.
Speaking at ‘Samman’, a felicitation programme for unsung heroes organised by the Cyberabad Police in Gachibowli on Wednesday, Sood said he could not forget those moments.
“I had no clue when I started helping people in a small way. Soon things went out of proportion and more people wanted help,” he said, adding that it was special to help guest workers because they were the real heroes.
The efforts during the pandemic saw him and his team connect to nearly 7.26 lakh people and help nearly 3,500 students studying abroad to return home safely.
“Soon came appeals for jobs. We created a platform to connect corporates and other job providers. Till date we could help close to two lakh people. Together we can make a huge difference to the society we are living in,” he said.
Cyberabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar, who felicitated Sood for the good work he had done, said the Cyberabad Police too had made special efforts to send guest workers back to their homes by way of special trains.
“Three lakh guest workers were ferried in 40 trains to their home towns,” he said, adding that the Cyberabad police were the first in India to set up a Covid Control Room in India just one day after the lockdown was announced. The Control Room got 3,000 calls a day.
